Deserted

Deserted

Deserted to death

From homes the fathers wrestled

With vigor and pride

Running to no where

To camps of refuge unsafe

From herders that roam and shepherd with guns

Deserted by the man

The man at the centre with might

To the hands of raging grablers

Running to death from death

To disease that caught unaware in an epidemic

For the home is unsafe

The centre is unsafe

The village is made desert

For all are a prey to the bandit and guns

COVID -19 Series

Rethinking the world

Like a glimpse
It is living with us

Within a peek
the change is here

our wold is paused
and the fear lives with us

so we share smiles
and hope that tomorrow wakes clashing today

With rare passion
We clutch the new order

So we watch the moments pass by
And learned though the times

It is a hard reality on our hands
That time and efforts will conquer

Muted

The world
The songs
The streets
Markets
The pubs and café
The temples and synagogues
So if I write again….

Horror is walking the streets
The pain in far lands
Now walks near us
Yet our streets are teeming
Yet far for our sake
Our song is louder
For fear can only silence us a while

All is muting
So, we save our world
From the tiny droplets
Wrecking the space

Let all mute
Let the song go low
Until the sunrises again
We will amplify the stolen freedom

Ashamed

Ashamed of Today?

On the sand of time
My mind hovered, for their names are bare
Aper Aku, Adasu,  Tarka, Tofi, Ianna, Awuna,A.A Ikyese, Golozo, Mama Kunu, Sam kpako
Perhaps where I live to live today
And I hope for times when our history of Gemade, Akume , Ayu, Saror, Hagher, Suswam, and  Ortom is recounted

Today may be today
Meshed in rising internet of things
Yet they so live and live
From cassettes to  CDs have Golozo , Tondo Kombur and co lived
With words like a just sharpened sword today and tomorrow they live again

So I kept Vigil at JS Tarka play pitch
So we yearned for children’s and independence day
I could perch their thoughts of old ways and the monument they left
Building to a new world ‘globalization’ and thinking deeply of us
But years and an antiquity I can’t see them growing to yearn

Wrecked like war thronged terrains so are the LGEA even in the rescue of SUBEB
So once waxing of yesterday have thronged today
Dreamed and nursed to live in CCG,Tofi and KCC
Have raised millions to a new world worse thronged by yesterday?

Let’s pause and shame
Even for those deep lines of hate and torture by mere Tiv lineage?
Shitile , sankera,  Tongov , kusuv, shorov , jenmbagh to Jechira ……
Are these ones not blood?
Yet they have no shield of peace but pain by sword, guns, destruction and death
Like wide fire now, welcome us to vacant homes

I look and look at Sankera, ravaging in gallows
For example
The history repeats, wrapped and served like “atemtyough”?
If only guns fallowed, would the names we name be living?
What if we hold the arrows? And refuel to serve the world the best Tiv meal?

I am pained and ashamed of today
Nevertheless, I join the queue to stand up
For a revolution of time
Altogether, let us start again
Than remain slaves to stomach infrastructure

If Benue were a Book

Benue

If I were to author a book titled
Benue
My thoughts will shatter

like glass bow to stones

If Benue were a book
I will write over 1976 pages
With such pain and struggle
To place the food basket where you were to be

I will spill the unwritten toils and feat
That feed the nation in every paragraph
North South East and West
Even to the wars that held the Midline

If I were to read the book, Benue
I will keep the lessons at 42
The pains and soul of the head
That has led you to ruins in every chapter
I will cry again at your untapped river-Benue

I will read loud the pages
That recount the agony
Of cries from farm lands to resting places and camps
for these lessons may recreate tomorrow
If we see them in today

May be I will wish Aku had stayed longer
For his memory lingers in every pleasing eulogy
For I wish I would borrow the ideas you lay there 6 inches below
For they have not taken your baseline to today
In every phrase or clause your few tongues would show deep cuts

If Benue were a book
If I were to author you
I will write a story of shreds from rising glory
And erase the pages with tragedy
I will stay on the banks of river Benue
And let all my tears wash your pains away with the water

Split Emotions

I basked the tendons of passions
I questioned my emotions
And split the shots
That held the fury
My emotions were swept
But I held my passion to ransom
And Staked the fondness
of my nerve
The words ran
in their mood of passion
But couldn't hold them
like a flood of tears
I gashed
I gasped
I sighed
Freedom emotions!
