If Benue were a Book

Benue

If I were to author a book titled
Benue
My thoughts will shatter

like glass bow to stones

If Benue were a book
I will write over 1976 pages
With such pain and struggle
To place the food basket where you were to be

I will spill the unwritten toils and feat
That feed the nation in every paragraph
North South East and West
Even to the wars that held the Midline

If I were to read the book, Benue
I will keep the lessons at 42
The pains and soul of the head
That has led you to ruins in every chapter
I will cry again at your untapped river-Benue

I will read loud the pages
That recount the agony
Of cries from farm lands to resting places and camps
for these lessons may recreate tomorrow
If we see them in today

May be I will wish Aku had stayed longer
For his memory lingers in every pleasing eulogy
For I wish I would borrow the ideas you lay there 6 inches below
For they have not taken your baseline to today
In every phrase or clause your few tongues would show deep cuts

If Benue were a book
If I were to author you
I will write a story of shreds from rising glory
And erase the pages with tragedy
I will stay on the banks of river Benue
And let all my tears wash your pains away with the water

...............
Thoughts from Poetry and Passion
Shattered but Pushing

  1. This is a nice piece of art born out of a heavy heart. We have to consciously make effort to set Benue back on the right track even from the forth coming 2023 election. Thanks for reawaken our mind once again.
