2023 Musings

 2023 and Beyond: Musings

Long we waited
Almighty year came and here lay the fear of motherland
Swirl political stage for the players
But to us running in spiralling tunes like it was swange
And our naira trapped for their safe
EluPee Jagaba ,Balabluen to feedeeefeee
Mixed splash emotions
A symphony of pain, joy and despair
From swapping naira colours to food prices
That ran to Zuma rock where no common man had a chopper to climb
Miles gone from 2023
Everything is racing beyond pace
We are looking back on this walk
Was 2019, 2015, 2011 better ?
Japa or stay ?
Questioning and answering to gloomy hopes
When the day is awake
Do we ask ?
For the oil in our backyard is not ours?
Or the market man and man in power run us street ne ?
When will the pay day herald ululation in our homes
Than the fear of the debtor?
Or the gun man ravaging unprovoked?
Renewed hope , I promise me to be hopeful
Despair revived ?
Our thoughts ravaged in whirlwind
But we renew hope
For hope is our light in the tunnel
Even if Nigeria happened , again
Let Nigeria work for Nigeria

Beautiful alteration

Beautiful alteration

The Love of what I know

I felt the ‘owambe’

That is perhaps the only universal language we share

Yes! But how do I place ‘Swange’ by ‘Atilogwu’

How do I explain this unexplained?

Love is what you know.

If I describe the electrifying action of ‘genger’ and ‘asongu ashu’ over pounded yam

You may spat it for ‘Ofensala’ but how about ‘kyegh sha Shwa (KSS)’

Who told you I would cherish the fondness of “edikang ikong”

Or the lavishing effect of “pomo”, prawns and periwinkle

That garnish the sight, taste and varied veggies to savor?

I love the beauty of ‘anger’ but you do aso-oke

Or will you compare ‘ewedu’ to ‘Okoho’?

What happens to the sliming beauty of its strings?

Perhaps your chest and tongue can savor the ‘akpo-achegh’

And to the dogs you will this Benue delicacy on wikipedia

You cherish Isha-Agu to the world but simple black and white lines run my head

There lay a history and beauty the world adores

We are so beautiful, a great people

Those red and black stripes, blue, black and white are colours to beat

If I take ‘miyan-kukah’, I see ‘Gbodi ‘

So tell me about ‘Agidi’, ‘gbegiri’ and ‘ewa’, let me place ‘Gbache’, ‘igyande’ and ‘furum’ before you

For I am on top of the world when these are walking along pounded yam

I could only spare a thought about eba or fufu when the yam has one scare

What a world apart, all for what I know

So whether you look down on theirs, or mine I explore

Love is love of what you know

Of our noble nature lay a basket of unending uniqueness

These we share to the world like a beautiful meal

And each to the love they care

Stories for Someday

Hope

I will tell the tales
Of wobbling and scold
That tomorrow wakes bright
When smiles never quit

When my heart soliloquy
And is pinched its loneliness
It’s like being drowned
So yesterday tales will be

What implausible emptiness!
What a world with just me
In the  middle of  the land and seas
Ahead, beside and behind

Yet in me alone
Lay the peace
To be still
That the tales remain a story
Of my life Journey

Tomorrow and day light cant be held back
When the sun rises at dawn
so is each day we work and believe
when it is time
The tales of yesterday
A story for someday

PAUSED WORLD

1.4.2016

I could breathe

But my heart Paused

Yet thoughts of you are alive

And all that exist in my world

Silence!

Across the table

Like we will sit

I could see you beam the smile

That I could just compare to Nature’s Beauty

Nothing!

You had borne my impatience

You confessed the imperfections

But you sat there

And so the evening laxed our jaws

Smile!

I am here at the table alone

In my mind I have your clone

A picture I will bear

And the Thoughts that can’t leave

Staring! Smiling!

But here at the table alone

I could plead to time

Take me back there!

I want the moment that paused my world reverted

Anger!

Poetry is indeed a true expression of feelings and thoughts and not just words

Deserted

Deserted

Deserted to death

From homes the fathers wrestled

With vigor and pride

Running to no where

To camps of refuge unsafe

From herders that roam and shepherd with guns

Deserted by the man

The man at the centre with might

To the hands of raging grablers

Running to death from death

To disease that caught unaware in an epidemic

For the home is unsafe

The centre is unsafe

The village is made desert

For all are a prey to the bandit and guns

COVID -19 Series

Rethinking the world

Like a glimpse
It is living with us

Within a peek
the change is here

our wold is paused
and the fear lives with us

so we share smiles
and hope that tomorrow wakes clashing today

With rare passion
We clutch the new order

So we watch the moments pass by
And learned though the times

It is a hard reality on our hands
That time and efforts will conquer

Muted

The world
The songs
The streets
Markets
The pubs and café
The temples and synagogues
So if I write again….

Horror is walking the streets
The pain in far lands
Now walks near us
Yet our streets are teeming
Yet far for our sake
Our song is louder
For fear can only silence us a while

All is muting
So, we save our world
From the tiny droplets
Wrecking the space

Let all mute
Let the song go low
Until the sunrises again
We will amplify the stolen freedom
